Professional Contemporary Dance Training

The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance offers a rigorous and challenging training programme for anyone preparing to embark on an exciting career in Contemporary Dance Performance. If you are physically fit and prepared to work with a passion; if you are creative and willing to make sacrifices to achieve your goals and realise your potential; then read on!

We offer the only full time training in Contemporary Dance Performance in Scotland. Our training covers all aspects of your dance development and progresses through the following structure:

For students who have talent and potential but lacks previous experience in contemporary and ballet techniques we offer a one foundation level course Introduction to Dance.

• NQ Contemporary Dance Performance (Year 1)
• HNC Contemporary Dance Performance (HNC/HND)

We are also pleased to announce that since September 2008 the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance have been offering our NEW BA Hons Dance validated by Northumbria University (Year 4).

The core of our training programme focuses on Contemporary Dance Techniques – principally Release and Cunningham – and Classical Ballet Technique.

Choreographic training is a vital element in our programme and is a combination of skills development and practical exercises/ projects. Students are encouraged to choreograph throughout the course and opportunities to perform student work, informally and in public performance are frequent. We continually create and respond to opportunities to enhance choreographic and artistic development.

• Workshops with professional companies and choreographers

We also have an extensive visiting lecturer programme and have a number of close links with many professional dance companies most notably Scottish Dance Theatre and Smallpetitklein.
