Team Takes Steps to Raise Funds

Release date: 12/02/2010

Dundee College’s Princes Trust Team in Perth set off on its first fund-raising foray on Friday, February 12 – a sponsored walk in and around Pitlochry, to raise cash for their future endeavours.

These included a community project and a series of team challenges which have still to be decided.

The new team comprises nine men and six women, aged between 16-23, and all keen to take on some fulfilling work that benefits the community.

In the past Dundee College Prince’s Trust teams have worked with nursing homes charity refuge centres, and youth activity centres, both indoor and outside – refurbishing gardens, doing interior decoration, providing seating areas or play areas even creating a cafĂ© in one instance!

The team will also be packing bags in Tesco in Perth in a bid to raise funds.

As well as the community project challenges team members face a busy three months undertaking environmental projects, participating in a two-week work placement and a week-long residential focussing on team-building and outdoor activities such as canoeing, mountain biking and orienteering.

Based at Highland House in St Catherine’s Retail Park, the Prince’s Trust Team project is aimed at preparing those taking part for that vital ‘next step’ into employment or further education.

It helps young people develop confidence, learn new skills, and get into work as well as bringing together people from different backgrounds and circumstances and with different abilities.

The programme encourages team members’ individual personal development in areas such as communication, leadership, motivation, confidence and tolerance.
