Hairdressers Focus on Contest

Michael and Rosie (back) with models Kat and Steph

Release date: 24/01/2012

Two Dundee College hairdressing students are in the frame for national competition.

In a bid to make the cut for Xposure, Wella Professionals’ UK-wide competition aimed at colleges, HNC students Rosie Myles and Michael Johnston had to photograph a cut and colour which they each created for Stage 1 of the contest.

Both Michael (24) and Rosie (20) came into Dundee College Kingsway Campus the week before their course restarted in January to complete the competition task.

With fellow students, 17-year-old Kat Temple, a level 5 hairdressing student from Brechin, and Dundondian Steph Mason (19), level 6 beauty therapy, acting as models the students spent four hours completing their cut and colour.

Hairdressing lecturer Craig Millar offered his photographic services and the students, on completion of their work, put their trust in his skills with a camera.

Forfar resident Rosie chose a bright and bold combination of reds and a copper tone while Michael, of Dundee, utilised pinks, lilac and mauve. Both students then did precision cuts to complement their colour choices.

Both students must now wait to see if their photographic entries will win them a place in the regional heats.

“There are four heats taking place across the country with the only one in Scotland scheduled for Clydebank College on Wednesday, March 7, so Rosie and Michael are keeping that date free,” said senior lecturer Lorraine Howitt.

“Should they get through to that stage they will among a total of 80 finalists across the four regional heats, so the competition will still be pretty tough.”
