Big Drop Raises Charity Cash
Release date: 24/12/2011
Raising money for charity proved an uplifting experience for Dundee College receptionist Katie Bain.
The 21-year-old agreed to take part in a 40m bungee jump into the Pass of Killiecrankie to raise cash for Rebound SHS, an organisation which offers confidential support and information to people who self harm.
Katie, who is also a full-time law student, was quick to leap in support of the charity thanks to a long-time friendship.
“My close friend, Hollie Morrison, who I have known since we were both primary school age, set up Rebound in 2010,” said the Harris Academy FP
“When I heard they were looking for volunteers you could say I jumped at the chance – I’ve always wanted to do a bungee jump and couldn’t think of a better way to achieve my ambition while raising cash for a really good cause.”
A former proud native of Invergowrie, Katie is no stranger to physical athleticism having been a gymnast for 10 years, representing Scotland in Ashaffenburg, Germany for a twin cities competition in 2005.
Over £1000 was raised for the charity when Katie, Hollie and four others made the bungee jump on Christmas Eve – Katie raising just under £300.
Hollie was delighted by how quickly the volunteers sprang into action.
“I was overwhelmed by the support Rebound received from both the very brave volunteers who did the jump and the amazing generosity of all the people who sponsored us,” said the event organiser.
“Each volunteer put in so much effort to their fundraising and there was a great sense of teamwork.
“It means so much to me that people are showing so much interest in helping provide a support service for people who self harm in Dundee.”
