Student National Entitlement Card

NECThis is a multi-application smartcard scheme run as a partnership between the Scottish Government, Scotland’s local councils, Dundee College and others to make it quicker and easier to access services.

Many councils across Scotland already have schemes which allow a variety of services to be added to this card. These include bus travel, leisure, libraries, staff cards, taxi services for those with disabilities. Other councils across Scotland will be introducing these schemes in the future and the number of services will continue to grow over the next few years.

  • The card is personalised and allows you to select the services you want to add
  • It is quick to use - just flash it over a reader and it scans automatically
  • It is convenient - a single card with many uses helping you to reduce the number of cards you need to carry
  • It is easy - no more repeating your name and address to get a service. Just quote your number or swipe your card

Dundee College – the College side of the card has your ID Number on it, this is your College network user name.  The card can be used in College Libraries for self-issue machines.  We will be introducing more services, such as sQuid (see below), soon.

Young Scot - Young Scot is the national youth information agency for Scotland and is a registered charity. If you are aged between 11 and 25 your new National Entitlement Card will have Young Scot branding.

This branding will give you access to all of the Young Scot information services, as well as discounts and special offers in over 1,800 places in Scotland and in over 200,000 places in 42 European countries. The new card will also have the PASS hologram on it, meaning you can use it as a proof-of-age card across the UK. You can find more information at www.youngscot.org.

Young Persons Travel Concession - If you are aged between 16 and 18 (inclusive) or you are a full-time volunteer (30+ hours per week) aged between 19 and 25 (inclusive) with ProjectScotland or Community Service Volunteers (CSV Scotland) you may qualify for the Young Persons Concessionary Travel Scheme.

Scotland-Wide Free Bus Travel - for older and disabled people - If you are 60 and over or have a disability you may be entitled to free bus travel. This will be shown as an orange symbol at the bottom right of your card.

security codesQuid - A smarter way to pay - sQuid is a new kind of cash: smart cash. It can be used to pay for those everyday items, such as your morning coffee, your favourite magazine and your lunchtime sandwich. We have introduced sQuid at a number of College pay points.  It saves you from fiddling with coins and helps you keep an eye on where your money is going. Find out more at: www.squidcard.com
When you register your Dundee College card with sQuid the 3 digit security number will be the last 3 digits of your 16 digit card number. Find out further details about registering your student card with sQuid.
