Jute - Joint Upskilling for Training and Employment
October 2009 - September 2011
This project aims to provide female students in Dundee College and South Delhi Polytechnic for Women with the creative and entrepreneurial skills they will require to compete successfully in a global marketplace.
The Ukieri Jute Project has been a superb means of allowing staff and students from two different countries and cultures to work together in a creative context.
From the point of view of the Dundee College students who were part of the project while undertaking assessment work for their HND Textiles course, it has given them the chance to experience specialist master classes in traditional Indian textile and embroidery techniques as well as raise awareness of their own cultural heritage in Dundee. It has also given the staff and students who travelled to South Delhi Polytechnic for Women a fantastic opportunity to visit that country and experience at first hand the traditional skills of a cultural heritage very different in so many ways to their own.
As well as gaining new knowledge through the exchange of skills and knowledge between the institutions, the staff of Dundee College also undertook masterclass workshops for the South Delhi college students and this transfer of knowledge has been enriching and rewarding for all involved.
