Microgeneration Skills
July 2009 - June 2011
This project will support work to develop 12 new NQ units based on the new occupational standards for the installation and maintenance of micro-renewables produced by Summitskills and build capacity to deliver these through creating online materials and tutor training. Our aim is to widen participation in lifelong learning by creating new opportunities for SME and new entrant learners to gain skills which will directly impact to open up employment opportunities.
Our Objectives are:
- to establish a multi-partner project steering group to oversee the project and manage quality together with a panel of employers to test and evaluate what is produced
- to develop units based on the new occupational standards across the range of microrenewable installation and maintenance skills for both domestic and business markets.
We will cover the skills associated with the technologies identified in the Government Strategy including solar photovoltaics (PV) to provide electricity and thermal to provide hot water, micro-wind (including rooftop mounted turbines), micro-hydro, heat pumps, biomass, micro-combined heat and power (micro-CHP).
This work will be led by the SQA and will be completed by June 2010
- to develop materials, including on line materials, to support delivery of training. This work will be led by Dundee College and will be completed by Dec 2010. All materials developed will be piloted and reviewed by an employer panel.
- to develop trainer training materials and brief/train tutors in delivering the new qualifications. This will be done by June 2011. All partners will also support a major dissemination programme using trade journals etc to ensure the new programmes are delivered across the Lowlands and Uplands Programme Area.
