This is a one-year course running from September to June. It may also be possible to start in October, or later in the year if there are places available.

There are 8 levels of classes from beginner to advanced. When you arrive we assess you and place you in the most suitable level. Maximum class size is 18 though the group size is often smaller.

There are 18 hours of English per week. Classes are 1½ hours long between 9am and 6.15pm. Classes focus on:

  • vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation
  • listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • English for work, study and living in the UK
  • exam preparation for Cambridge exams, IELTS & Scottish Qualifications Authority assessments
  • project work with a special focus on Scotland
  • we use a variety of materials including authentic materials, coursebooks & the internet

There is a strong focus on interactive communication in lessons and you are expected to contribute to pair and groupwork in order to complete tasks.

Qualifications

All students receive a Dundee College certificate and report detailing progress made and qualifications gained while at Dundee College.

You will also receive certificates for any Cambridge ESOL exams you pass PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS or Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) ESOL and Core Skills Units you successfully complete.

Cultural Programme

Dundee College offers you an excellent cultural programme including:

  • visits to Scottish cities
  • visits to places of cultural & historical interest, like museums, castles and distilleries
  • traditional Scottish events, like ceilidhs (Scottish parties), Highland Games and Burns Suppers
  • exploring the countryside and nearby towns
  • other social events, like international lunches and barbecues

Other Subjects

Dundee College also provides opportunities for you to study in other ways:
