Equalskills (BCS Certificate)

Equalskills is designed to give people who have never used a computer the skills they need to get them started.

The course covers the basics starting with turning on a computer and using a mouse, before moving on to an introduction to email and the internet.  Candidates carry out simple and straightforward exercises on a computer using an easy to follow workbook.

The format of the course allows candidates to progress at a rate with which they feel comfortable.

The syllabus includes 4 units:

  • Computer basics
  • Introduction to the desktop
  • The World Wide Web
  • Email

E-Type

E-type is the fun and flexible way to gain touch-typing skills.  Suitable for anyone who uses a computer at any level, this qualification enables learners to improve their keyboard skills so they can work faster and more accurately.

Available Online

E-Type is available online so it can be practised outside of the class. You can learn at your own pace so there is no pressure to keep up with others.  Forget two finger typing forever.

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

ECDL Essentials provides an excellent introduction to the world of IT with particular focus on the first steps in using a computer, an explanation of the internet and email and how they can be used safely and productively.

ECDL Extra

This qualification builds on the learner’s initial experience and basic knowledge and improves their understanding of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.

ECDL (7 Unit)

This is the traditional ECDL qualification covering the full scope of using IT software. The qualification is widely recognised by employers as proof of ability and competence when working with IT.

ECDL Advanced

ECDL Advanced teaches learners to use IT at a professional level and is ideal for those looking to demonstrate the highest application of skills.

The aim of the qualification is to recognise the application of a range of IT user skills and knowledge in the workplace, meeting employer workforce demands. Learners typically register for one unit at a time, completing their studies in "bite-size chunks".

ECDL Advanced is offered in 4 software packages:

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Presentations
  • Improving Productivity Using IT

IC3 - Internet and Computing Core Certification

The Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) course is a standards-based training and certification program for basic computing and Internet knowledge and skills.

The IC³ Certification comprises of three individual examinations:

  • Computing Fundamentals
  • Key Applications
  • Living Online 

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)

The Microsoft Office Specialist qualification is aimed at those wanting to become more expert in the software packages that come with Microsoft Office. There are three grades on offer:

  1. Master
  2. Expert
  3. Specialist

 

You can become a Specialist by passing just one of the following exams:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • Access
  • Outlook

As an Expert, you'll concentrate on either Word or Excel. To attain the title of Master, you need to pass the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint exams, plus either Access or Outlook.
