Developing Greater Skills Utilisation in the Workplace

Dundee College and partners are offering you the opportunity to participate in a skills utilisation project specifically designed for life sciences businesses. The project aims to identify and develop unused workplace skills and experience to increase business performance.

The project is a cost-effective approach to renew business growth and has been proven to increase workplace productivity, innovation and commercial focus by delivering high performance through engaged staff.

Objectives:

  • To provide a low-cost framework for business improvement through best practices in skills utilisation
  • To develop lab-floor leadership in accessing skills and knowledge reserves
  • To ensure all staff are engaged in creating future business through innovation

Project Delivery

A comprehensive package of training and awareness will be produced through survey and management consultation. This will include elements specific to each company and others which will be beneficial across-the-board.

Training will be delivered in a variety of ways including on-line learning, one day workshops and targeted short courses.

Each programme will lay the foundations for implementing an ongoing strategy of successful skills utilisation.

As a result of this project, each company will possess:

  • a working knowledge of how to achieve better results through their people
  • an understanding of where they are in this process
  • a clear plan of action that will deliver increased business performance immediately and through future milestones.

This project is led by Dundee College in partnership with:

  • Forth Valley College
  • Scottish Enterprise SEMTA (Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies)
  • Skills Development Scotland
  • University of Dundee

It is funded by the Scottish Funding Council and reports to the Life Sciences Advisory Board.
It will work through and with a cohort of companies selected from the Scottish life sciences industry.
